What is Where We Live NYC?

How It Works

In the coming months, the City of New York will work together with community leaders, government partners, and residents to understand how fair housing challenges impact New Yorkers’ lives, identify root causes, and develop meaningful policy solutions.

What do we mean by policy solutions?

Through Where We Live NYC, the City of New York is identifying fair housing challenges through data analysis and learning directly from New Yorkers. This approach will allow us to confront the root causes of segregation, housing discrimination, and unequal access to opportunity.

Where We Live NYC will not directly address specific housing developments and land use actions. Instead, we will look at how citywide investments, policies, and programming can be strengthened.

Depending on what comes out of Where We Live NYC, we could change or expand existing programs and policies, and/or introduce new ones related to housing and access to opportunity.

Working together with community leaders, government partners, and residents across all five boroughs we will develop feasible and impactful policy solutions that address fair housing challenges.
